MCA Denver’s Broads Banquet is an annual fundraiser hosted by broads, for broads with festivities that unceremoniously celebrate the art of our time and all that is feminine. Broads Banquet attendees show their support for the museum with the opportunity to invite three fellow ‘broads’ worthy of sisterhood to attend. Each year, MCA Denver honors a featured artist whose work inspires the theme, décor and invitations for the Broads Banquet. In 2015, MCA featured Ana Maria Hernando, a local artist specializing in painting and sculpture, who is recognized for her innovative approach to the dynamics of cultural gender relations and her incorporation of women’s domestic handwork into her exhibits and installations.
EBD was honored to be named Creative Chair of the 2015 Broads Banquet leading the invitation design and helping the committee organize the décor, favors and festivities, all of which were inspired by Hernando’s work. The invitation included a hand-sewn booklet that featured some of Hernando’s original artwork and beautiful gold type paired with brightly colored envelopes. This design transformed into custom-made scarves with Ana Maria’s artwork, temporary tattoos, and even custom cookies for broads to enjoy during the party.
